Our Second Half of Term – Summer 2015
Posted: 18th July 2015
Themes
This half term’s theme is ‘In the Garden’ with a host of inspiring activities planned including flower dying, making petal sun-catchers and leaf printing, creating a large picture of the village oak tree and putting on our very own art exhibition of Monet-styled artwork. Flowers will feature for the first few weeks before moving on to vegetables and insects that may be found in the garden – with a butterfly hunt and allotment harvesting planned towards the end of the term. We hope to create a bug garden near the sheds on the village green – so watch this space! Our Forest Schoolers will be learning the background to the story of Beowulf and finding things in the woodlands that may have been used for dying cloth or medicinal purposes back in Anglo-Saxon times.
Thanks
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our sports day. The children all did a wonderful job during their races with smiles all round – and mums and dads didn’t do too badly either!
Despite the traditional rain interlude, the contributions made by our fantastic team of committee members and parents, families and friends who bought raffle tickets, cakes and joined in the post-racing fun activities on the day, helped raise our best ever total of £630!!! We will now have to put our thinking caps on to work out how best to spend it to benefit all of our children, and those who will follow in their footsteps.
Outings
There are some special outings planned, beginning with our annual trip to West Wittering on Tuesday 9th June – fingers crossed for a sunny day! For our leavers there will be a trip to the museum for a spot of pond dipping on Monday 6th July and the final trip will be to Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard on Monday 13th July.
Art Exhibition
As mentioned above, we will be holding our first art exhibition over two days, scheduled for the evening of Monday 6th July between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and again on the morning of Tuesday 7th July with invitations being issued to local dignitaries including the vicar, primary school teachers and our new parents. It will be a wonderful opportunity to show off the talents of your children with paintings, models and pictures amongst the items on display, and you are all welcome to attend with friends and family – invitations will be distributed shortly.
Leavers’ Celebration and Teddy Bears’ Picnic
Traditionally this is held on our last day of term, Friday 17th July. It is a lovely morning with a chance for guests to see a Beowulf Re-enactment and for the children to take part in a special picnic with their teddies following presentations to our leavers as we wish them well as they move on to Reception classes. Full details will be posted nearer the time.
Breakfast Club
As you will have read in other communications, we will no longer be running breakfast club after this term.
Sunday Walk
This is scheduled for 5th July and will take place in Grayswood. We will meet at 2.30pm in the village hall car park and take a stroll through our woods and visit the allotment to see how well the flowers and produce are doing. All welcome.
