FAQs

Drop-off and collection

What time is drop-off and pick-up? Is it the same at both locations?

  • Drop off is at 9:05am with registration at 9.10am. We appreciate your efforts to get your children to nursery promptly as it helps them settle when they are all together, particularly when we are at the hall.
  • Pick up is 12:35 or 14:45. The same at both locations.

What is the rota and why do we have one?

  • We have run a drop off rota for a number of years as it helps with car park congestion.

What happens if I am late for a pick-up? (i.e. repeated late collections fee)

  • Late collection charge will apply. £5 per 5 mins after 2.45-3.00,  from 3.00 £10 per 5mins as we will have to employ staff to stay on which means they will need to pay childcare for their own children.

Who do I contact to notify of absence or lateness?

  • Contact Jess on 07789982280 or email admin@grayswoodnurseryschool.co.uk. You can leave a voicemail, text or whatsapp the mobile number.

Can someone else collect my child?

  • If someone, other than yourself, is coming to collect your child, even if it is another nursery parent, please make a note in the folder at drop off and ensure that you put the name and telephone number of the person collecting. We are unable to release a child from our care without prior written notification of a change to normal collection procedures. If someone else is collecting on a regular basis please let Jess know by emailing admin@grayswoodnurseryschool.co.uk so they can be added to the list.

Clothing and kit

Getting ready for a day at nursery

  • Children need to come ready for their day at nursery.  If they are going to be spending their day in the woods they need to come wearing their ‘reds’.  When the weather is extremely hot of course we don’t expect them to wear the dungarees.  If we need to take them out of their ‘reds’ because a plan has changed we will organize this in nursery and it is a very good learning experience for children to dress and undress themselves.  Most of the year children need to come to nursery in wellies.

When and where can I buy second-hand uniform items?

  • Email Jess on admin@grayswoodnurseryschool.co.uk

Welly Boots

  • We recommend Warm Wellies (discount code GNFS10 for a 10% discount from https://www.warmwellies.co.uk/).  If you choose another brand please do not put so many layers of socks on your child that they cannot move their toes.

What are indoor shoes?

  • We ask children to all have a pair of slip on plimsols to leave at nursery.  On arrival children change into these shoes leaving their wellies on a named mat.  Children are learning to recognise their name and matching their boots/plimsols to their own mat.  They are learning to organize themselves but putting shoes in the right place where they can be found later.  Children wear indoor shoes to keep the floors and most particularly carpets clean and also if they tread on someone’s fingers when they are playing on the floor these soft shoes are less likely to hurt than heavy trainers

What should my child wear for trips?

  • Usual nursery uniform and reds. Any additional items will be sent to parents at the time.

Where can I get good quality name labels for the various items in my child’s kit?

  • There are many companies that name labels can be sourced from. A couple you could look at are:

We have lost an item belonging to my child. Do you have a lost property box?

  • Yes.

Day-to-day bits

Which day should we return library books?

  • Any day

What are Fabulous Me vouchers?

  • Fabulous Me vouchers are to celebrate something your child has done at home, however big or small, and these will be included in their profiles which are given to the children when they leave us. Also, if you have a special, or family event, please bring in some photos for us to share at circle time.

Can I send cake in on my child’s birthday? Book scheme

  • Unfortunately, due to allergies we are unable to accept cake or birthday treats at the Nursery. We will still make it a special day for each child but in other ways.
  • We also have the birthday  book scheme with the Haslemere Bookshop.  You can buy a book at the Haslemere bookshop to be donated to the Nursery to celebrate your child’s birthday .  Haslemere bookshop then also donate 10% of the takings of the book to the Nursery.

Who is Mrs Maureen and when does she come in?

  • Miss Maureen visits on Thursdays for music and movement sessions

What does my child need to bring/have in their bag?

  • Not much! The bag needs to be a small backpack which they can carry. A pair of pants and socks, maybe trousers if inclined to have accidents. Nappies/wipes/sack if still in nappies. And nothing else. If we can put their water bottle and lunch box in the bag at the end of the day even better!

How can we get involved in Nursery life? Events, fundraisers, helpers?

  • Speak to the Parent rep.

Meds and sickness guide as per last week’s newsletter. When can my child return to Nursery after XYZ? Antibiotics and medical forms.

  • The nursery is a learning environment and to learn you need to feel well.  If you have any concerns about when your child should kept at home please ask us.  Here are some guidelines
  • Sickness and diarrhoea – children should be kept away from nursery for 48hours after the last bout of illness and when their stools have returned to normal.  This is a statutory requirement and not set by the nursery.
  • Colds/coughs – light colds and coughs are a continuous feature and generally a child can be at nursery.  But sometimes they tip over to making a child feel unwell and sick.  Then they should stay away from nursery.
  • Infections which require antibiotics – most children should not be at nursery if they are taking antibiotics.  If you are towards the end of a long course you are welcome to bring in medication. You will need to complete a form BEFORE we can administer medicine.  The nursery can only administer medicines prescribed by a doctor and clearly labelled with the child’s name and dosage

Can we share our childcare with another nursery?

  • No but you can share care with a childminder or Nanny.  This is because our experience has taught us sharing nurseries very rarely works for a child.  They find the differences in settings tricky to manage
